A united Europe

A united Europe is a central element in my vision of the future. A “conditio sine qua non” for a good future.

The european union, as it exists today, is already a huge progress compared to the national states. Without it, our existence would probably be less attractive and more difficult, in all respects, culture, economy etc.

The united Europe urgently needs to be further developed and deepened. On this, Ulrike Guérot has developed very interesting ideas and approaches in her book “Why Europe should become a republic” (5).

One central aspect is the topic resp. the set of problems of the different languages. The existing language diversity, not to say the hurly-burly of languages, is significantly impeding the emergence of a real community of european citizens. Common media are impossible, and it is also difficult in private life, when two or more languages are spoken inside one family or one circle of friends.

Of course, the national languages are deeply linked to the respective cultures and mentalities, but the lack of a common language is an enormous obstacle on the way to further integration.

Hence, I propose to introduce in all member countries of the European Union the english language as a common second official language. For me, this is a necessary step to further bring Europeans together!

This is a very interesting and up-to-date input to the topic “united Europe” (in German)
